Why Self-Storage is the Business

Many more of us are now running our own businesses in a self-employed or franchisee capacity, and that can impact on space at home if you’ve stock to store. So why not think about self-storage London?

Whilst many people think that self-storage London units are for household use only, savvy small business owners are really realising that renting a self-storage London unit is the most cost-effective way to store their products or other business equipment, leaving spare rooms at home, well, as spare space for other stuff!

You can rent a self-storage London unit for as little or as long time as you like. So it’s a fantastic stop-gap whilst you get your business going without having to rent premises or pay hefty council and utility bills. Our self-storage London units come in all sizes, so you can store simply a few boxes of products right through to larger items that you need for your business but don’t want to store at home.

Renting a self-storage London unit for business purposes does make financial sense – everything you store is safe and secure, accessible and a self-storage London unit offers you genuine flexibility.

Once you’ve rented your own self-storage London unit, we can add shelving, lighting and electrical outlets to make your self-storage London unit a second office – our on-site amenities also include free printing, copying, faxing, wi-fi and even professional shredding of any business documents you no longer need. And if you inventory your self-storage boxes, we also offer a free item and retrieval delivery service which means we’ll bring what you need right to your door, right when you need it.

And how about file and document storage? These things can take up such a lot of space at home or in your office space, but do need to be kept safe and secure. Renting a small self-storage London unit means that you can box up and keep all your important business documents in one place, there when you need them, but out of your way whilst you don’t!

And, of course, you can chop and change the size of your self-storage London unit whenever it suits you. If your business is seasonal, there may be times that you have more stock or items to store, so you may need to rent a larger self-storage unit. Then, there might be times when a smaller self-storage unit better suits your needs.

It’s this kind of value-for-money flexibility that makes self-storage for small businesses the business!

Moving House? Then You’d Best Get Packing!

The summer months are the optimum time for moving house, and very often self-storage can be a great way of stashing stuff away whilst you get settled into your new home. But is there an art to packing your belongings for self-storage? Is there a strategy for labelling your boxes? And should you REALLY start packing two months in advance? YES!! Here’s how and why:

1: Pack your boxes correctly
If you’re going to be renting a self-storage London unit before, during and after your house move, you need to know that your belongings are packed correctly as well as stored safely. Always invest in secure boxes to begin with – check out our packing supplies page for excellent value-for-money boxes and more. Ensure that your items are well padded – line the bottom of your self-storage box with newspaper, and depending on what you’re packing, wrap each item in newspaper or bubble wrap too. If there are any gaps, stuff these with newspaper as well. Then, when your self-storage packing box is full, tape it shut and remember to label the contents on the sides of the box, not the top. That way, if you’ve stacked boxes on top of each other in your self-storage London unit, you can immediately see what’s what.

2: Pack by Room
It makes sense to pack boxes according to items within each room of your house – so pack kitchen items together, bedroom, bathroom, etc. Remember that things like towels and bedding can also provide excellent stuffing, and by filling boxes to the brim they are much less likely to collapse. So pack your items by room, label each with what it contains, and remember to add if any items in your self-storage box are fragile so that you DON’T stack heavy boxes on top of your finest glassware!

3: Use furniture for storage
If you’re going to be storing furniture items in your self-storage London unit, then make the most of their in-built storage facilities! Dressers, drawers , desks and beds with storage drawers needn’t be emptied, just make sure there’s nothing breakable inside and if needs be stretch masking tape across the contents of drawers to hold your belongings in place.

4: Stack your plates on edge
You might think that when stacking your self-storage boxes with crockery, it’s best to pile plates up. But actually, plates are less likely to break if they are packed standing on edge in the box. Make sure each is wrapped in a sheet of newspaper and include plenty of stuffing on the bottom, to the sides and in the corners of your packing box so that your crockery has no room to move.

5: Pack your clothes quickly and efficiently
Using wardrobe boxes is the fastest and most convenient way to pack your clothes for self-storage. You don’t have to remove your clothes from their hangers – just pop them straight into your wardrobe box. It’s a great chance to separate your clothes into seasonal wear so that you can quickly just grab the items you need when you’ve moved to your new home, and leave the rest in your safe and secure self-storage London unit. You can buy wardrobe boxes directly from us via our packing supplies page.

6: Take care of the bits and bobs!
Make sure that you keep all furniture castors, picture and mirror hangings and any other bits and bobs that go with certain items safe. Store them in clearly labelled plastic bags and attach them to the item if possible using string or tape, or store them in a separate self-storage packing box for quick and easy access when you need them.

7: Start packing well in advance!!!!
Don’t wait until the last minute to start packing your things for your self-storage London unit! Most of us have plenty of things we can pack away and store well in advance of a move that we won’t miss – such as seasonal clothing, books, ‘best’ china and glassware….take a look around your home and see what you can start packing away for your self-storage London unit now, so that you can take a lot of stress out of those last few weeks before you make your move.
