What is self storage?

Self storage is a service offering flexible, do it yourself storage for personal and commercial customers. We provide clean, dry, individually alarmed storage units. You put your own padlock on the door and you keep the key ensuring that only you have access to your goods.

What can I store?

You can store almost anything, any size, from archive boxes to aquariums, computers to Christmas decorations, sofas to skis, a few items or whole house contents - as long as it's not flammable, hazardous, perishable or illegal.

How much does it cost to store my things with you?

The cost of storing your goods will depend on how much space you will need. Prices start from just £9.99 plus VAT per week. We suggest that you consult our on-line space calculator or contact our friendly, helpful staff to determine the optimum size storage unit for your requirements.

How much space do I need?

Storage units range in size from a telephone box to a tennis court, and prices start from as little as £9.99 plus VAT per week. Our friendly, helpful staff can advise you on how to pack your items to take full advantage of the height of the storage unit. Fort Box unit sizes range from 10 to 200 square feet, (1 to 10 m2) or more, and we are sure to have the size of unit that meets your needs.

What is the smallest unit you have available?

Our smallest units are lockers of one metre cubed. Walk-in storage units start at 10 square feet (1 m2).

Can I transfer to another unit if I find I have too much or too little space?

You are welcome to move to another size unit at any time to suit your storage requirements and subject to availability.

What is included in the price - are there any hidden extras?

Fort Box prices include your storage charge, rates, service charges, utility bills, security and maintenance costs. You will need a padlock to secure your unit. Goods must be insured and if your existing insurance policy does not cover you then you can reimburse Fort Box for providing a contents policy specifically designed for goods whilst in storage. Cover is provided for fire, theft and water damage. A refundable security deposit equal to four weeks' storage charge is payable at the commencement of storage and is refunded after you vacate your storage unit.

When can I access my storage unit?

You can access your storage unit free of charge during opening hours, or opt for one of our 24 hour units if you want extended access.

What are your opening hours?

Our reception opening hours are:
Mon-Fri: 0800 - 1800 (Thurs 2000) Sat: 1000 - 1700
Sun: 1100 - 1600
You can also opt for one of our 24 hour units to have round the clock access, seven days a week.

How secure is the storage?

All Fort Box centres are fitted with extensive security features including:

  • 24 hour CCTV located both inside and outside the main building monitoring all entrances & exits.
  • A sophisticated twin alarm system, one for the building and one for each storage unit.
  • Coded electronic gate access to the building accessible only with your own personal security PIN number.
  • Random security patrols after office hours.

Can anyone else gain access to my storage unit?

Only those people authorized in writing by you, and to whom you have given your PIN code and padlock key, can gain entry to the storage centre.

Do you have insurance?

It is a condition of storing with us that your goods are insured. If your existing insurance policy does not cover you then Fort Box can provide a contents policy specifically designed for goods whilst in storage that will cover them for fire, theft and water damage.

How can I ensure that my goods remain in good condition?

Our expert staff will be pleased to advise you on the best way to store your items. We offer a full range of packaging materials to help you safely pack your goods.

Do you sell boxes and other packaging materials?

How long can I hire the storage unit?

You are welcome to stay for as long as you wish, subject to the minimum hire period.

What is the minimum hire period?

Our minimum storage charge is 'four weeks.'

Do I have to give you notice to leave?

We only require seven days' notice of your intention to vacate your unit. Notice must be given in writing. Your security deposit and any unused hire charges will be refunded, less any outstanding amounts, after you have vacated the unit.

Do I have to sign a lease?

No you don't, you sign a straightforward storage licence agreement prior to moving into your unit. The agreement comprises a simple two page 'no fuss' contract. The contract takes approximately ten minutes to complete.

Do I have to reserve a unit?

No, you can fill in your license agreement today and move in immediately. However, a deposit will reserve a specific unit and guarantee that it is ready and waiting for you on the day you need it.

How soon can I move in?

You can move in today. A member of our staff will fill in our simple one page storage agreement with you, (this takes approximately 10 minutes) and then you can move your goods in straight away.

How do I get my goods to you?

You can bring your goods in your own vehicle, if it is large enough. We have ample car parking and large loading/unloading areas at all of our centres. Alternatively, we can recommend local van hire/removal companies to help with your transportation.

How do I get my goods from my vehicle to the storage unit?

There are a number of different size trolleys and pallet trucks available free of charge for customer use.

What do I do if I have a problem?

A trained member of staff will always be on hand during reception opening hours.

How can I pay for my storage?

We offer a number of payment options including direct debit, cheque, debit and credit cards, and we soon be introducing a facility to allow you to pay online.

Do I pay weekly or monthly?

We invoice customers on a four weekly (twenty eight day) basis payable in advance. However, we only ask for seven days notice when you vacate your unit and any unused storage charges will be refunded together with your deposit after you vacate the unit.

Are the storage units heated?

Our units are not heated. However, we do find that the temperature within our facilities remains fairly constant and our centres are not too hot or unduly cold.
